About Paul
Paul is currently playing Ubaldi Piangi in The Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty's Theatre in London's West End.
Paul graduated from the Central Queensland University Conservatorium of Music (Australia) with the honour of being awarded the ‘Most Promising Voice for Music Theatre Award’ in both 2007 & 2009. With a Bachelor of Music Theatre he immediately made his first operatic debut with a solo opera performance in Opera Queensland’s world premiere production of The Dirty Apple.
In 2011/12 Paul joined Andrew Lloyd Webber’s sequel to The Phantom Of The Opera, Love Never Dies, playing the supporting principal role of Squelch. The production was filmed by Universal Studios International and distributed to over 75 countries worldwide.
2013 proved to be a milestone in his career. In February 2013 Paul was accepted as a ‘Young Artist in the prestigious Luciano Pavarotti Foundation of Modena under the guidance of director and wife of the late Maestro, Signora. Nicoletta Mantovani. Paul shared the stage with Placido Domingo and Andrea Bocelli, performing to an audience of over 20,000 at the Arena in Verona, Italy. This sold-out event commemorated 100 years of opera at the Arena, and was a tribute to the late Luciano Pavarotti. The event was broadcast via Rai 1 to over 15 million viewers. This concert led Paul to being invited to perform as a soloist at the house of Luciano Pavarotti in Modena in 2013. He then performed in New York on Broadway at the New York City Centre, Teatro Menotti (Spoletto) and Teatro Duse in Bologna with the Luciano Pavarotti Heritage Concert.
Paul made his professional operatic debut in 2014 as Duca di Mantova in Verdi’s Rigoletto at the Opera Națională Bucureşti under the baton of Cristiano Sandu and directed by Stephen Barlow. In April Paul performed as ‘Tony’ in Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story for the Teatro Carlo Felice (Genova) under the baton of Maestro Wayne Marshall, and also made his debut as B.F Pinkerton in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly at the Teatro dei Giglio (Lucca) in collaboration with the Puccini Foundation of Italy under the direction of Massimo Morella.
Paul was the runner-up at the 2013 International Vocal Competition Rinaldo Pellizoni and won the Public Choice Award at the 2014 Canto Festival at Teatro La Fenice (FM).
2015 proved to be another great year for the young tenor as he returned to the Opera Naţională București for further performances as Duca Di Mantova in Stephen Barlow’s production of Rigoletto. He was then invited to once again play the role of Squelch for the 2015/2016 season of Stage Entertainment’s (Germany), production of Love Never Dies at the Hamburg Stage Operettenhaus.
